PICTURE 2-1 (F) 'Apricot Emperor'
$9.90
Orange rose tinged red. BT 1 Ht 2 (35 cm) Like the apricot, this one is sweet and tart. Fosteriana Tulips are more commonly known as Emperor Tulips, and the names of many of the varieties reflect this ("Red Emperor", "White Emperor", "Pink Emperor", "Orange Emperor", etc.). Fosteriana Tulips look particularly impressive when planted in large beds ("drifts"), and will come back year after year. A few varieties have a fragrance; I have indicated which ones by putting an asterisk (*) after the name of the variety. Flowering time: Early spring.

PICTURE 2-2 (F) 'Golden Emperor'
$7.70
Pure golden yellow. BT1 Ht 2 (40 cm) Like all the Fosteriana varieties, this is one of the 'Botanical' tulips - great for landscaping! May perennialize given proper conditions. Last year I sold and planted 'Purissima' - the white form of the Fosteriana family. It was an excellent performer - particularly when massed in the landscape. Somewhat problematic for me as a cut flower since it tended to fly wide open - which I enjoy, but some find unsettling.

PICTURE 2-3 (F) 'Orange Emperor'

Carrot orange BT 1 Ht 2 (35 cm). Like most Fosteriana, these carry large blooms on sturdy stems. Shape/form: immense petals on cup-shaped flower on a strong stem leaves are sometimes striped or mottled Alternate names: Emperor Tulips Notes: good for beds, and as cut flowers perennialize very well (i.e. come back year after year)

PICTURE 2-4 (F) 'Zombie'
